Old Growth Tropical Montane Forest

 

Horton Plains National Park in Sri Lanka is one of the few cloud forests left untouched in the tropics. Around 750 species of plants belonging to 20+ families have been recorded from the park. Many trees (although look stunted and twisted due to the montane climate) in the plains are more than a hundred years old. Out of the 24 species of mammals, 87 species of birds, nine species of reptiles, and eight species of amphibians, many have been recorded as endemic to the island
